Coronavirus and the Human Death Rate of 100% - "Knowing it all ends soon, what should I do today?"

Photo: Claudio Furlan, LaPresse, Courtesy Associated Press
The United States and people all over the world seem to be in a panic over the Coronavirus.

The death rate from the heretofore unknown virus is 2.3% overall. The death rate is at 8% for people in their 70s, and it stands at almost 15% for people in their 80s. But overall, just 2.3%.

That means, for every 100 people infected with Coronavirus, less than 3 people will die from it.

That's just plain silly

The human race has an actual death rate of 100%.
"People are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment" (Hebrews 9:27 NIV)
If you're living your life differently today because the Coronavirus has a 2.3% mortality rate, you're not yet comprehending that everyone (which means "you") has a 100% death rate.

Steve Jobs once said,
Death is the destination we all share. No one has ever escaped it. And that is as it should be, because death is very likely the single best invention of life. Death is life’s change agent.
Death clears out the old to make way for the new. Right now, the new is you, but someday not too long from now you will gradually become the old and be cleared away.
Sorry to be so dramatic, but it’s quite true. Your time is limited; so don’t waste it living someone else’s life.
"The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at times of challenge and controversy."
The original Martin Luther, the one after whom Jr. was named, was once asked:
"If you knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, what would you do?"

Martin Luther responded:
"Even if I knew that tomorrow the world would go to pieces, I would still plant my apple tree."
Luther reveals that the person "at peace with God" has no need to change the course direction of his or her life.

If you're considering your mortality because of the Coronavirus, you've not yet learned what it means to live.

Nobody is truly living until they are comfortable with dying. Peace with God brings a person to the place of planting an apple true on the last day of one's life.

This peace with our Creator comes from trusting the truth that He in His love for you,  has done for you through His Son Jesus Christ what you could never accomplish for yourself.

Christ died that I might live.

Pardon me as I go plant my apple tree.

Well, I definitely agree with not panicking, and that we should always live as if we're prepared to die because of the work of Christ.

However, let's just grant that your dearly beloved JAMA numbers are accurate (while we overlook the myriads of supporting factors that raise serious questions to them). At what percentage of mortality rate would you need to see for you to forgo planting your apple tree and start helping people out of a genuine care and concern for them not to get sick?

Proverbs 22:3 "A shrewd person saw danger and hid himself, but the naive passed on by and paid for it."

Panic and fear should not find a place in the heart of the Child of God, yet proper preparation and wise consideration are never out of place.

Just because I have a train ticket doesn't mean I want to be on the next train leaving the station!

Wade,

Glade you referenced (NIV) the Hebrews 9:27 verse.
To understand what a verse means, it’s good to read the verse before and after.

Hebrews 9:27-28 New International Version (NIV)

27 “Just as people are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, 28 so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time, not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.”

I like the NLT: 27

“And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgment, 28 so also Christ died once for all time as a sacrifice to take away the sins of many people. He will come again, NOT TO DEAL WITH OUR SINS, but to bring salvation to all who are eagerly waiting for him.”

Without verse 28, it looks like Christians will be face judgment for our many sins.

What’s interesting is to compare the common flu (A,B) where it is anticipated 16,000 Americans will die this year, with the Coronavirus, the numbers don’t show a lot of difference. We’ve just become complacent with the flu, we know it kills old people, but covid-19 is new and therefore scary.

Well, the million dollar question is who's in control of the numbers? I've not heard of apartment doors being welded shut to keep people in apartment building quarantines due to the flu. :)

I've lived next to and worked for some of the brightest people in their fields of medicine, have had family members in the the med profession, but have always noticed that super smart people often miss the forest for the trees because of their schooling.

My health was turned upside down because I entrusted myself to approx. 11 of these highly respected professionals before I started asking questions about the system, and have crossed paths over the past two decades with scores upon scores of similar folks and their families who have suffered in so many ways needlessly. It's nothing less than criminal negligence actually.

Yes, I agree with your ‘preaching’ only the lost are at “Judgement Day”. I wish you could agree with Paul when he wrote:

“So we are always confident, even though we know that as long as we live in these bodies, we are not at home with the Lord…Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord.” (2 Corinthians 5:6-8 NLT)

Jesus said: “But now, as to whether the dead will be raised; haven’t you ever read about this in the writings of Moses, in the story of the burning bush? Long after Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob had died, God said to Moses, “I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob. So, he is the God of the living, not the dead. YOU HAVE MADE A SERIOUS ERROR.” (Mark 12:20-27 NLT)

Wade, where did the thief go when Jesus told him, “Today, you will be with me in Paradise.”

Hey there, REX RAY

before you buy into that story concerning the military spraying over Americans to experiment on them,
please research a man called Axel Springer

I wouldn't trust the information about that 'report', no. Not based on that source.

We have to be careful these days about who owns what company that supports what publishing or media outlet and what their agendas might be. . .

As I have stated before (ranted, actually), it is much better to follow many sources of information and to check them out and to compare and contrast them. I believe in this because of how I was trained at university to 'consider sources' in various ways to eliminate 'propaganda' from fact in some cases, and I think these days, we need to be doing this more than ever.

If it WERE true, it would have been very well known once the cat was out of the bag, so I will see what else I can find out about that report . . .

As for you concern about the good thief on the Cross, St. Dismus, remember that 'eternity' is not the same as 'time', but I cannot, and would not speak for Wade. Hopefully he will have time to respond to your concern. Be well, good person.

Please pray for those at risk for illnesses, especially the very old (yes, us), the very young, the poor, the disabled, and those who have little access to health care in our nation because they are in remote rural areas. . . . please pray for them. These are strange times. I'm keeping some vigil prayer nights for a while. Take care.

Hey!

Just got word I now have Great Grandchildren of both sexes; boy 8 pounds 12 ounces. Judy almost jumped up and down. She doesn’t have Grandchildren.

Christiane, keep up the good work if that news is fake or not.

God did not have plan B: “God chose him [Jesus] as your ramson long before the world began…” (1 Peter 1:20 NLT)

“For God loved the world [people] so much he gave his one and only Son, so that everyone
who believes in him will not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16 NLT)

We are the children of God:

“To all who believed him [Jesus] and accepted him, he gave the right to become the children of God.” (John 1:12 NLT)

Since God loves his children so much, wouldn’t He want us to be with Him as soon as we die?

Christiane said...

Hey REX RAY,

Congratulations on the birth of a grandson! Wonderful news.
It sounds like Judy is thrilled.

I would not worry for a moment about being 'with' Our Lord after we pass from this Earth.
I believe our souls are present to Him and safe in His care at the moment of our deaths.

Here are some words said in my own Church for a dying person:

"LET THE FIRE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT NOW DESCEND
THAT THIS BEING MIGHT BE AWAKENED TO THE WORLD BEYOND THE LIFE OF THIS EARTH,
AND INFUSED WITH THE POWER OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.
O LORD JESUS CHRIST, MOST MERCIFUL,
WE ASK THAT YOU RECEIVE THIS CHILD INTO YOUR LOVING ARMS,
THAT HE MIGHT PASS IN SAFETY FROM THIS CRISIS,
AS THOU HAST TOLD US WITH INFINITE COMPASSION "

Don't worry, REX RAY, all shall be well.
Here's a prayer you can say when the 'time' comes: "JESUS CHRIST, I TRUST IN YOU"

Lissa Roberson said...

Ken,

Wade's post is a good reminder to all of us that Corona-Panic aside, the mortality rate is 100% across the board.

One related issue in all this is the length that modern-day medicine goes in order to extend human life. Medical devices and medication can help man live longer, but what "quality" of life is being extended? Chemotherapy sickens the patient in the name of "curing" the illness. The newest drugs on the market are touted as beneficial and life-extending, but they come with a huge list of debilitating potential side effects. Life-saving machines in hospitals can keep critically ill patients alive by breathing for them and keeping nourishment flowing into them, but the patients are unable to speak if they are responsive at all. My aunt was in a coma for 6 weeks over the holidays and faces a very long recovery...just to return to her lonely life at home as a widow.

Our attitude toward the prospect of our own death is highly influenced by whether or not we know Jesus. If we are at peace with the 100% odds, maybe we'll forego many of the heroic options that are offered to us at the medical center, opting instead for a peaceful passage...maybe even a worshipful exit after having planted that apple tree. Now to decide on which species...

Rex Ray said...

Lissa Roberson,

Yes, it seems modern medical care is designed to make sure you leave this world ‘broke’. On the other hand, it can extend a ‘good lifetime’ like my 70-year-old cousin who had a ‘lung replacement’ two years ago. Without it he would have died in 30 days.

Last Saturday, he used his tractor to pull our floating deck to shore to replace bad barrels.

I see you were an IMB missionary for 12 years in China and Japan. I’ll bet you’re glad you’re not in China now. (I’ve been on 13 mission trips to Japan.)

I also see you were a “military brat, attending 7 schools by the fifth grade.”

“Military brat” caused me to remember my mother asking me in Germany as a tenth-grader to keep her fourth-grade class for 10 minutes. When she came back, I was in a corner to keep them from kicking me. (My legs were sore a few days.) I know it wasn’t you as in 8 days I’ll be 88.

Speaking of China, my uncle, Rex Ray, was a missionary there for 30 years. His first child died there when she was 5 years old. While in a hospital, they told her she was going to be with Jesus.

“Mama, will you go with me?”
“No honey, Jesus will take care of you.”
“ Mama, which one is our house?” (Her last words.)

" My aunt was in a coma for 6 weeks over the holidays and faces a very long recovery...just to return to her lonely life at home as a widow. "

Lissa, thanks for your thoughts, and I'll pray that God uses this time in your aunt's life to enrich her life in Christ as he did mine, even though I've had the thought of putting my nine to my noggin on several occasions. It's a tough road - I couldn't of traversed it with the constant support and care of my incredible and beautiful wife.

Wade's advice on 'what should we do' (based on his Jama statistic) seems to miss the point of preparedness just like the advice of Trump does. The societal chaos that is resulting from this sickness is worth noting and preparing for without panicking while trusting God every step of the way. It's no different than looking at the weather forecast every day to see what type of clothing to wear while knowing the forecast could be wrong.

My long-term beef with quoting these "highly respected" journals:

"“It is simply no longer possible to believe much of the clinical research that is published, or to rely on the judgment of trusted physicians or authoritative medical guidelines. I take no pleasure in this conclusion, which I reached slowly and reluctantly over my two decades as editor of The New England Journal of Medicine”

taken from: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC4572812/

The system is governed by evil, and a multitude of good people in the system are doing little to correct it, while hosts of people are suffering at the expense of those in power.

Ken

I am very grateful for professional clinical research myself, and also for governmental regulations that have professional medical people making decisions about which medicines are allowed to be used in this country.

Some years ago, in Europe, there was a drug called 'thalidomide' which helped pregnant women with their early trimester nausea, which can be quite severe at times. But it had not been properly tested enough for our professional and governmental standards in this country.
The 'big pharma' people were furious with the professional who denied the use of that drug to American women and they put political pressure on her to change her ruling. But she did not.

About nine months later, 'big pharma' got their eyes opened to their own greedy ways when, in Europe, the 'thalidomide' babies began to be born, without arms, with other malformations, and the doctor who had protected our own American women from that tragedy was honored for her stand for what she knew to be the right thing to do.

If our systems are being attacked by politics, by 'big pharma' greed, by 'the conspiracy theorists' (the anti-vaxers), then
I wish to stand up for the medical profession and those professional government workers who do research that protects our public from untested medications and corporate greed that asks them to 'over-look' correct procedures for proper testing to protect the public.

I would also stand up for our doctors, of whom there are now four in my family, and also an additional three nurse practitioners. What they go through to train for their profession is also regulated so that they are 'certified' by medical boards as qualified physicians.

What is the current purpose of the attacks on clinical research? Is it not known that in publishing findings, other scientists often take up the findings and re-examine them to see if the same results come from the same designed experiment that yielded the first results? Who is behind the attacks on our American scientific community that is professional? And why? And why now?
?

Christiane - it's always a matter of perspective, isn't it? Being grateful for the good in a system while being blind to the criminal abuse and negligence is a no good stick-your-head-in-the-sand syndrome. Ignorance is not blissful to the abused victims. Sheeples in churches succumb to this syndrome all the time - which is why the USA, inc. is full of them..

So I have two adult children that were afflicted with life-altering illnesses - the one infected at a young age, the other when an adult. Thank God they both are still ticking. The one could've easily joined the class-action lawsuit against Bayer (formerly Monsanto), but isn't interested in $$. Quit chemo treatments half-way through a couple yeas ago (his choice when he started seeing how the system works) and took his health into his own hands.

It's been since the seventies that our sociopathic, in-bed-with-big-Pharma FDA has approved glyphosate which resulted in millions of people around the world suffering and dying. My PhD neighbor (weeds) was part of the process of studying it for GOV. I asked him about it over twenty five years ago since our fields were being sprayed with it. "It's basically harmless...FDA approved". Tell that to the judges and juries in the latest lawsuits:

https://thehill.com/blogs/pundits-blog/energy-environment/324386-monsanto-and-the-epa-have-been-lying-to-us-for-years

I could go on an on and on, but most people in health care don't have ears to hear. Too busy enjoying their comfortable lifestyles and prestigious positions.

"The current approval process is similar to the FDA saying that a cookie is safe for a child to eat based on assessing the safety of just one ingredient, like vanilla in the cookie, regardless of the contents or safety of all the other ingredients, which could be fatal food allergies.

Obviously the assessing of only one chemical in a chemical product is a faulty system, as even third grade science shows that when one chemical is added to another chemical, the effects are completely different."

By the way, that just goes to show you the influence I have over the guy. I also originated the "wall along the entire southern border" concept; the reduction in corporate tax rates as a means to being corporations back to the U.S. AND the exiting from the NAFTA agreement BEFORE TRUMP EVEN RAN FOR PRESIDENT! Man, sometimes I amaze myself!

BUT Trump still has NOT followed my instructions to enact a 20% Flat Tax FOR ALL INCOME LEVELS. He HAS done some things to bring corporate investment into urban areas but not as much as I would do. Corporations should be given big incentives to set up their entire operations in those urban areas as a means to elevate the economic prosperity into those communities, but Trump has not been as aggressive, yet, on doing that. Amazon was going to do that for New York City but some of those crazy, self-serving, politicians squashed the opportunity for their own political agendas at the expense of the well-being of those urban residents. What a shame.

Trump hasn't done all that I propose but maybe he needs a little more time to do it ALL. We will see if he gets 'er dun in his second term, unless, of course, former Vice President Joe Biden is elected! In that case, we will have to see what his VICE PRESIDENT does when they assume office within the first two years of Joe's initial term due to his resignation. Remember, when Joe runs, you will be voting for his VICE PRESIDENT to serve as President within Joe's first term.

As a disclaimer - I haven't read the virus mania book I linked in Amazon, but asked my wife to order it. Still trying to piece all this together. I don't think the virus is a hoax (still favor the bioweapon theory), but am trying to sort through the specifics based on an overarching model that continually reveals itself in this form: create a problem (virus, school shooting, 9/11, OK city bombing, etc.), then use fear and panic to get people to conform to a solution you sell them (vaccines, wars, etc.) to make them think they are more safe.

The net result is GOV and its sycopants (evil individuals, foundations, businesses, etc.) get more PAC'M (power, authority, control and money) while most of the people get poorer, and lose freedom and security. This is nothing less than sophisticated slavery.

Unreal. Instead of giving the CDC over 8 billion dollars, Trump should've fired them all.

"The US has been lying all along.

Robert Redfield, CDC director, testifying to Congress, today admitted that virus deaths have been miscategorised as the flu.

He also stated that the standard practice has been to first test people for the flu and, if the test is positive, they stop there. They don’t test for the coronavirus.

So Japan and Taiwan were correct. Many of the US deaths attributed to the flu were actually from the coronavirus.

One Senator asked Redfield if post-mortems were performed to learn the cause of death, and he stated that such were done, and they revealed mis-diagnoses.

The infections and deaths have been knowingly mis-categorised for months, and the CDC ‘strongly’ recommended that hospitals not test for the virus except as a last resort. It is not an accident that the US has no reliable tests. They don’t want to test. Blame everything on the flu.

And now all meetings and discussions on the virus are classified, and all public information must be first cleared through the White House."

POTUS: "I'm not taking responsibility for anything"

we get it

I am shocked you called this corona virus panic "silly" Tell that to those in China, Italy, and now Spain.

The population of those over 60 in Italy is 20.01 million in a country of 68 million. That is a huge percentage of the population that this virus targets. It has overwhelmed the medical system, there isn't enough ventilators and doctors have to choose who gets help breathing.

The age range most affected in China was 70-80 year old men.

According to Michael Osterholm(an American public-health scientist and a biosecurity and infectious-disease expert.), For example, one of the risk factors for acute respiratory distress syndrome, or ARDS -- the most severe of the outcomes of COVID-19 infection -- is obesity. In parts of the world, including the US, where obesity is an epidemic problem, its likely we may see a different case fatality rate than we're seeing in China; that is, US fatalities may be less gender-specific and the rate of fatalities could be even higher than it is in China due to higher obesity rates among people 45 years or older.

BERGEN: Are we equipped with the ICUs and the ventilators to deal with a large-scale group of people coming in with these kinds of symptoms?
OSTERHOLM: Absolutely not. Right now, today, in Minneapolis-St. Paul, every one of the beds that we use for extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO), a high-level machine that supports the heart and lungs and is critical for keeping people alive who have illness like COVID-19, are filled. This is in part because we are just coming off a moderate to severe flu season and that has really stretched our care capacity. On top of that, a number of hospitals throughout the country have only 5 to 10 days' worth of personal protective equipment (PPE) available for health care workers. They don't know when over-stretched PPE manufacturers will be able to deliver more.

Not to mention this:

BERGEN: Have there been any changes in the US since you warned three years ago of the failure to prepare for the next pandemic?
OSTERHOLM: We are worse off today than we were in 2017 because the health care system is stretched thinner now than ever. There is no excess capacity. And public health funding has been cut under this administration.

I find your views hideous, ignorant, and plain cold and unfeeling.

When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them, because they were harassed and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd. When he saw the crowds, he had compassion on them because they were confused and helpless, like sheep without a shepherd.

Jesus had compassion on them and touched their eyes. Immediately they received their sight and followed him.

He had compassion on them and healed their sick. Matt 14:14

What a time to demonstrate compassion with all the frenzy going on. And you, a sheep leader write a post that basically just says "oh well, we are all gonna die"

Well there is a whole lot of life here in this world, where the demonstration of compassion would be of more value that your blunt, oh well we are all gonna die, just give your life to Jesus attitude.

If that was the same as Jesus attitude why did he have compassion on them? Why did he heal them? Why didn't he just let them all die?

At the beginning of every verse it states, HE HAD COMPASSION ON THEM.

But know you just smite everyone and say the panic is just silliness. That shows me you have little regard or understanding of medical facts, and don't value those that spend a lifetime studying and preparing and helping those who suffer with this worlds diseases.

OH well , we are all gonna die anyway, approach is utterly vile.

Wade,

We agree that Christians don’t face the judgement, so I’m only showing the NLT has a truer translation in Hebrews 9:27 than the NIV.

“People are destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.” NIV

This states all people will face judgment, while the NLT states:

“And just as each person is destined to die once and after that comes judgement.”

I believe you’ll see the difference.

P.S.
bunkababy, your misunderstanding thoughts are what’s vile.
